Essential Goodness
Manila

Completed in July of 2018 by JJ Acuna Bespoke Studio, Essential Goodness is a restaurant located at the rooftop of the LUB’D hotel in the bustling Poblacion district of Manila.

The overall interior design scheme features a combination of warm wood tones and lush foliage consistent with island homes as well as a retention of natural light thanks to its tall facade windows, reminiscent of penthouses in elevated developments across Manila. A strong focus on community sharing and lifestyle form the bedrock of the spatial planning.

The dynamic bar is the focal point of the space and is braced on each side by two spaces which cater to a variety of dining styles. The bar crown extends into the high ceiling doubling up as display shelving unit.

Timber trellis panels used on the windows in the formal dining area and recalled in the ceiling provide an interesting feeling of depth and a game of shadows and light throughout the day. The central bar-height sharing tables are adorned with locally sourced woven pendant lights in celebration of Filipino weaving craftsmanship.

In a much less formal setting, the opposite dining area features outdoor lounge seating and maximises the use of the daylight and plant life to connect to the outdoors. The wicker element is recalled in the form of effortlessly chic woven rattan outdoor seats where clients can enjoy their meal in a relaxed atmosphere.
